Disney's Animated Peter Pan is based on the play by J. M. Barrie, which is entitled Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. This is the 14th animated film that Disney produced for kids. It was originally released on February 5, 1953 by RKO Pictures.
Also it is considered as the final animated feature Disney has made that has been released through RKO. Walt Disney has founded its own distribution company named Buena Vista Distribution. Sadly, this is the last film where in all nine members of Disney's Nine Old Men worked together.
This movie centers on the life and adventures of Peter Pan. He is the hero of the story and a boy who will never grow up. He is hot-headed and impulsive yet commanding and very brave. Though, he could be mean but he could also be caring. He finds enjoyment with his encounters with Captain Hook and was responsible for the poor pirate's losing his left hand.
The voice cast includes Bobby Driscoll as Peter Pan, Kathryn Beaumont as Wendy Darling, Hans Conried as Captain Hook and Mr. Darling, Bill Thompson as Mr. Smee and Other Pirates, Heather Angel as Mrs. Darling, Paul Collins as John Darling, and Tommy Luske as Michael Darling. The others are Candy Candido as The Indian Chief, Tom Conway as Narrator, Robert Ellis as Cubby, and June Foray as Mermaid and Squaw. Minor voice casts are Connie Hilton as Mermaid, Margaret Kerry as Mermaid, Karen Kester as Mermaid, Johnny McGovern as Twins, Jeffrey Silver as Nibs, Stuffy Singer as Foxy, and The Mellomen as Pirate Chorus.
The directing animators are as follows: Milt Kahl (Peter Pan), Frank Thomas (Captain Hook), and Wolfgang Reitherman (Crocodile). Ward Kimball was the directing for Wendy, John, Michael and The Lost Boys. Others are Ollie Johnston (Mr. Smee), Marc Davis (Tinker Bell), Eric Larson (Flying sequence), John Lounsbery (George Darling), and Les Clark (The Indian Chiefs).

Disney's Peter Pan was released as a Walt Disney Classics on VHS last September 21, 1990. Also as part of the Masterpiece Collection release last March 3, 1998.
